As you might have expected, it was inconclusive. The spots on his liver were just too small to diagnose. The recommendation of the radiologist who read the MRI was that we come back in 6 months and have them checked again. Thank you very much, doc. We are NOT waiting 6 months. We will proceed to fight this aggressive cancer by using the most aggressive treatment possible. Surgery will be put off until the first of the year and Peter will start chemotherapy next Thursday. We met with his oncologist today, Dr. Takahashi. Peter has 3 choices for chemo. One choice is very effective, but also very toxic. The doctor said he has a hard time getting his patients to finish treatment because it is so rough. The next choice is nearly as effective...maybe more so because it is more likely patients can finish the course. The third choice is a clinical study which combines some very effective medications in a different cocktail than is currently being used. We are reading, thinking, and praying over the options. Please pray that God leads us to the right choice, and for peace of mind regarding the choice we make. And please continue praying for courage and strength for all of us. Good news about our friend, Earl. His doctors think that his tumors are probably benign and that it will be just a matter of cleaning things up. Praise God for his mercy. Please continue praying for him as his surgery approaches next Wednesday. He is older and a bit frail and surgery carries its own risk. Much love and many hugs, Peter and Rachelle
