Dr. Lowe spent most of the evening discussing advances in treatment options, but made one statement which caught our attention. Statistically, 1 in 8 men will have prostate cancer in his lifetime. BUT, if you have one close male relative with PC, your risk increases to 1 in 4. AND if you have more than one, ie father, PATERNAL UNCLE, paternal grandfather, or BROTHER with PC, your risk is 1 IN 2!!! Considering both Uncle Andy and Peter have prostate cancer, PLEASE!!! make an appointment with a urologist. Prostate cancer can strike at an early age, so be sure to mention your family history to your doctor. It is important to establish a baseline PSA and to continue to monitor your prostate health. As with most cancers, the earlier a problem is detected, the better your prognosis. With much love, Peter and Rachelle
